It’s time yet for another movie review! I’m listening to the soundtrack of this movie as I write this post, and it’s bringing back that delightful feeling I had while watching the movie. The characters in the film really get to you, in a positive way, that is! I wouldn’t say that the acting was extraordinary, but each character brings a unique taste to the movie.
I came to watch this movie with zero expectations, as I was a bit disappointed with Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. I checked the ratings of that movie, and they were all pretty good, but for some reason, I just couldn’t relate to the characters and found myself wanting to nap in the middle of the movie. But, with Mistress America, yes I did check the ratings too, and they were good too, but this time, I thought to myself, “I will have no expectations!” And guess what? It was surprisingly good. I found myself laughing out loud a number of times (as well as the rest of the moviegoers I was with).
I brought one of my bestfriends to watch the movie with me as my plus 1 to the event, and I think it was the perfect choice. I’m not sure the husband would enjoy the movie, as I would categorize it as a chick flick. But I wouldn’t know, I’d have to have him watch it to get his opinion. 🙂
Aside from the character build up and the humor, I also fell inlove with the soundtrack. Specially the theme song of the movie entitled Mistress America by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips. It’s very 1980’s. :p I have it on repeat now. 😀
I’d definitely recommend you catch this movie with your girlfriends when it comes out in cinemas on October 29! 🙂
